SURFACE STEP

Where:
On any road, particularly on rural roads, construction zones, or roads where maintenance or resurfacing has created uneven carriageway levels.

Purpose:
To warn drivers that there is a difference in the level of the road surface between the left and right sides of the carriageway.
This can occur when one side of the road is higher than the other, creating a step or ridge on the road surface.
The sign alerts drivers to potential vehicle instability and the risk of loss of control if the vehicle straddles the step.

Action:
Reduce your speed and approach the area with caution.
Be aware that your vehicle may pull to the left or right if you drive over the step, especially if your wheels straddle the difference in level.
Understand that vehicles may react slowly when moving from the lower to the higher level, which could lead to sudden or unexpected movements.
Avoid sudden steering movements, jerks, or abrupt maneuvers while crossing the step.
Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel and be ready to gently correct the vehicles alignment.
Keep a safe following distance from vehicles ahead, as they may react differently to the surface step.
