PassOvertaking Prohibited
Where: On any public road, particularly in areas where overtaking could be dangerous, such as on narrow roads, curves, hills, intersections, or areas with limited visibility.
Purpose: To inform drivers that overtaking other vehicles is prohibited for a specified distance, commonly 500 metres. This restriction is implemented to prevent accidents, maintain road safety, and reduce the risk of head-on collisions in areas where overtaking could be hazardous.
Action Required by Driver: Do not overtake any vehicle for the next 500 metres after the sign is displayed. If you are driving a heavy motor vehicle, do not overtake another heavy vehicle while this sign is displayed.
- Keep a safe distance — remain alert and maintain a safe following distance behind the vehicle in front.
- Wait for the clear — only resume overtaking when the road is clear, safe, and the overtaking prohibition has ended.
