PROTECTIVE HELMET FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS

You may not ride a motorcycle or be a passenger on a motorcycle, motor tricycle or a motor quad cycle, or be a passenger in the sidecar attached to a motorcycle, on a public road, unless a protective helmet is worn-

• which is specially designed for use in connection with such cycle; and
• which fits properly and of which the chin strap is properly fastened under the chin.

learners licence The rider of a motorcycle shall ensure that any passenger in or on such cycle who is younger than 14 years, wears such protective helmet.

The rider and passenger on a motorcycle may not wear a protective helmet when the motorcycle is equipped with a seatbelt that complies with the requirements of the SABS, and the engine can not move unless the driver and passengers (if any), of the motorcycle wear such seatbelt.
