MOTOR GATE

Where:
Especially on rural or farm roads, or in areas where roads pass through fenced-off land used for grazing or private property.
Motor gates are often found where a roadway crosses a boundary fence but access must still be maintained for vehicles.

Purpose:
To warn that there is a motor gate (also known as a cattle grid) either to the left, right, or in the centre of the road ahead.
This structure allows vehicles to pass while preventing livestock from crossing.
The surface of a motor gate is usually made of metal bars or grates, which can be slippery or uneven.

Action:
Slow down when approaching the motor gate.
Make sure there is no oncoming traffic about to cross the same gate, as the surface may not allow safe passing side by side.
Drive straight and steadily over the gate without braking or swerving.
Take extra care in wet or muddy conditions, and be alert for animals that may be near the gate or road edges.
